Community Garden Plot FAQ

Please reach us at Gardenplots@MelodyPlace.Farm if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Have questions about gardening at Melody Place Farm? We've got answers—some serious, some slightly silly, all useful. Whether you're growing garlic or geraniums, here's what you need to know:

Yes! In fact, we encourage it.
Unlike City of Ottawa community gardens, which don’t allow gardeners to profit from their harvests, Melody Place Farm is all about supporting small-scale growers and local entrepreneurship.

Thinking of growing garlic and selling it at a stand? Go for it. Want to supply local florists with farm-fresh flowers? You’re in the right place.

We’re even planning to launch a farmgate market in 2026 so you can showcase and sell your homegrown goodies right from Melody Place Farm. #GrowItSellIt

Absolutely.
Most community gardens limit you to one plot. Not us. Want five? You’ve got it. Start small or go big—we’re flexible.

Whether you’re dreaming of a salsa garden, a pickling empire, or a personal food forest, there’s space for your vision to grow.

Rich, fertile, and ready to grow.
Every garden plot at Melody Place Farm has 16 inches of incredible topsoil, with 40 parts per million of phosphorus—ideal for vegetables, flowers, herbs, and more.

It's the kind of soil that makes your seeding smile.

 Yes.
When renewal season rolls around, you’ll get first dibs on your current plot. This makes Melody Place Farm ideal for perennial gardens, long-term crops like asparagus and rhubarb, or just building up rich, worm-filled soil year after year.

Yes!
We offer 4' x 4' garden sheds for rent so you can store tools, gloves, seeds. No more lugging everything back and forth every time you visit.

We are an organic-style garden. That means:

  • No pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides (including synthetic ones)
  • Acetic acid (vinegar) is permitted for weed control
  • Please communicate with your plot neighbors if you're using anything at all—organic or otherwise—to keep things harmonious and bee-friendly

 No.
Even though it's legal in Ontario, growing cannabis or any other controlled substances is not permitted in the community garden. We're here to cultivate kale, not controversy.

  • Melody Place Farm is more than just garden plots—it’s a community. Respect your neighbors, share the water, and leave your plot (and the space around it) better than you found it.
  • Keep an eye out for volunteer days, seasonal potlucks, and hands-on workshops.
  • Got a bold idea? A quirky question? An unusual crop? We’re all ears. Reach out anytime.
